Lisa Urias Earns Distinction as Member of the 25 Most Admired Phoenix CEOs

April 25, 2012

PHOENIX – Urias Communications proudly announces the selection of its president, Lisa Urias, as one of the Phoenix Business Journal’s 25 Most Admired CEOs for 2012. Hailing from a range of industries, this elite group of local company leaders was chosen for their innovation in running successful businesses in a challenging economic climate. The publication will recognize Lisa and the other honorees on Tuesday, April 10, at a dinner and awards program at the Montelucia Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Managing Partner Jennifer Sanchez of Urias Communications states, “This award could not have been given to a more deserving CEO. I’m so proud to have been Lisa’s colleague for the last six years. She’s everybody’s mentor, teacher, and most of all, friend.”

Lisa’s passion for her community and ability to stay ahead of changing market demands are what not only garnered the Business Journal’s attention, but also serve to impress her clients and colleagues. “I have been privileged to work with Lisa for the past six years – initially as a client of the firm at the Metro Phoenix Partnership for Arts and Culture, and recently as her colleague at CALA Alliance,” says Myra Millinger of Millinger and Associates. “I have never seen Lisa as anything but gracious, warm, open and professional. I admire her humanity, her passion, and her spirit. She is a rare jewel!”

Lisa founded Urias Communications in 2003 to address an underserved need for strategic advertising and public relations with a uniquely multicultural focus. The award-winning agency specializes in the multicultural markets of the U.S. Southwest, with concentration on the burgeoning Hispanic market. Prior to opening Urias Communications, Lisa spent over 15 years in international marketing, including high-level positions with Salt River Project in Phoenix and Mexican energy consulting agency Alesco Consultores.

Born and raised in central Phoenix, Lisa graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an emphasis on Political Philosophy. Lisa’s pride in her Arizona heritage is evident in the commitment she shows to both professional projects and civic causes. She serves on several boards, including the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Arizona Latino Research Enterprise (ALRE) and Saint Luke’s Health Initiatives (SLHI) Foundation.

“Lisa has been a wonderful professional colleague, and is someone I consider a dear friend,” says Suzanne Pfister of Dignity Health. “We both share deep roots in Arizona, and she approaches her work with that sense of history, as well as the commitment to make our state a better place, despite the challenges we face.  We are so lucky to have her talent and savvy in our midst!”

Adds Denise Resnick of DRA Communications, “Lisa leads with her heart, smarts and collaborative spirit.  She’s an extraordinary professional who passionately serves the interests of our community and state.

“Nearly two years ago, we aligned our passions and co-founded the Real Arizona Coalition in response to divisive state-led immigration concerns,” Resnick continues. “Together with RAC’s member leadership organizations, representing business, multicultural and faith-based concerns, we are working diligently to advance a 21st century economy through national immigration solutions while restoring the Arizona we know and love.  It’s a privilege to partner with and learn from Lisa, and it’s an honor to applaud her for this well deserved recognition.”
