Lisa Urias on an Inappropriate Comment About Dolores Huerta

March 10, 2010

Recently, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Horne, spoke before the the House Education Committee in support of a bill to ban ethnic studies. In his testimony, he referred to Dolores Huerta as “the former girlfriend of César Chávez.” In response, Latino Perspectives published an editorial, which sets the record straight about who Ms. Huerta really was and the importance of her legacy. Lisa, who was interviewed for the article, said it was “unfortunate that any political leader in Arizona, especially one who is supposed to be leading in the area of education, doesn’t have a clear understanding of [Huerta’s] place and role in U.S. history.”
